12. SEWC-Awards
Presently two awards ie. “SEWC Roland Sharpe Medal” & “Life Time Honorary Membership” of SEWC were set up and awarded regularly at the SEWC Congresses:
Further it was decided to present these Awards/Medals every two years during the SEWC Congress starting in year 2011 in Como.
SEWC Roland Sharpe Medal
The SEWC Board decided unanimously to establish a SEWC award entitled “SEWC Roland Sharpe Medal” to honor the visionary founder and the first President of the SEWC, who organized the first SEWC Congress in 1998 in San Francisco. This award is conferred in recognition of the outstanding services to the Structural Engineers World Congress [SEWC] and contributions in the field of structural engineering.
- In the SEWC Congress held in Singapore during October 2015, the SEWC Board honored Mr. Leslie Robertson, USA by presenting the “Roland Sharpe Medal Award” in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of Structural Engineering
- In the SEWC 2017 Congress held in Cancun, Mexico during November 2017, the SEWC Board honored Mr. William F Baker, USA by presenting the “Roland Sharpe Medal Award” in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of Structural Engineering
- Further in the SEWC 2019 held in Istanbul, Turkey during April, the SEWC Board honored Prof. Akira Wada, Japan, by presenting the “Roland Sharpe Medal Award” in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of Structural Engineering.
Also Prof. Juan Gerardo Oliva Salinas, Mexico will be honored by presenting the award 'Roland Sharpe Medal' during the SEWC Congress being organized in Seoul, South Korea, in 2023 in recognition of his outstanding contribution in the field of Structural Engineering.
Earlier the following were awarded for the “Roland Sharpe Medal Award” during the 2011 SEWC held in Como, Italy:
i. Dr. Katsumi Yano: Co-Founder of SEWC and Organizer of SEWC Congress 2002 in Yokohama, Japan.
ii. R. Sundaram: Second and the current President of SEWC, Organizer of SEWC 2007 in Bangalore, India and for his outstanding efforts in developing SEWC.
iii. Dr. Gian Carlo Giuliani: for organizing the SEWC Congress 2011 in Como Italy and for his excellent work in widening the participation in Europe.
SEWC Life Time Honorary Membership
SEWC Board decided unanimously to establish a Life Time Honorary Membership, to be awarded to individuals due to their commitment and continued devotion to SEWC.
- In the SEWC Congress 2015 held in Singapore during October 2015, SEWC Board honoured Prof. M. Kawaguchi, Japan by bestowing the “Life Time Honorary Membership” of SEWC.
- In the SEWC Congress 2017 held in Cancun, Mexico during November 2017, SEWC Board honoured Prof. Ding Jiemin, China by bestowing the "Life Time Honorary Membership" of SEWC.
- Further in the SEWC 2019 held in Istanbul, Turkey during April, the SEWC Board honoured Prof. Jan B Obrebski Poland by presenting the Life Time Honorary Membership of SEWC.
Also Prof. Gorun Aurn, Turkey will be honoured by presenting the award ‘Life Time Honorary Membership’ during the SEWC Congress being organized in Seoul, South Korea, China in 2023 in recognition of her outstanding contribution in the field of Structural Engineering.
